• Obama biedt excuses aan voor Koranverbranding in Bagram. Volgens Karzai ging de Amerikaanse president diep door het stof: “I wish to express my deep regret for the reported incident. The error was inadvertent; I assure you that we will take the appropriate steps to avoid any recurrence, to include holding accountable those responsible.” Dat gaat Newt Gingrich te ver. Sterker: Karzai mag eerst zijn excuses aan Amerika aanbieden: “The president apologized for the burning, but I haven’t seen the president demand that the government of Afghanistan apologize for the killing of two young Americans.

• Mitt Romney was tijdens het debat helder: “The reason we have ObamaCare is because the senator you (Santorum, SL) supported over Pat Toomey in Pennsylvania, Arlen Specter … he voted for ObamaCare. If you had not supported him, if you had not supported Arlen Specter, we would not have ObamaCare, so take a look in the mirror.” Santorums verdediging was complex: hij verwierf de steun van Specter, voorzitter van de Senate Judiciary Committee in de benoeming voor leden van de Supreme Court – een wens van president Bush. Specter ontkent dat nu. Wordt vervolgd?
